The Ramona Renewable Energy Facility (RREF) is to be located on the southwest portion of the Ramona Landfill. The Ramona facility was designed to integrate the generation of electrical energy from onsite waste streams normally going into the landfill including Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Waste streams coming into the landfill will be diverted through a material re-processing facility (MRF) for sorting and re-claiming of recyclables. After sorting, what cannot be recycled will be sent to the RREF facility for conversion to electricity. Envirepel Energy does not anticipate any changes to local traffic resulting from the facility as it is using existing waste streams. SDG&E issued a Power Purchase Agreement for Ramona in early 2007. Envirepel Energy Inc is scheduled to complete the Ramona facility in December of 2009.
